Locus amoenus

This afternoon has the weight
of a crumb on someone’s else lip.

If you could touch it with your tongue,
the tickle down your throat would cease,

this wavering lapse into evening ease.
Breathe deeply. Think of haze over

the next hill, nervous patches of shade
the same sun makes quiver here too.
