Turning toward the Light

Poor moth, flown in a door left ajar
in search of damp darkness within
where candles then draw you in like a star —
trapped on the wrong side of a screen.

Poor humans, steered by a light-loving brain,
seduced then traduced by gloom, you too bat
up against a translucent membrane,
your mind not pur- only partially blind.
