than an old man’s whims<\/span>
\n — no value to others<\/span>
\n if their luster dims.<\/span>
\n So let connoisseurs<\/span><\/p>\n

mull tediously by piece<\/span>
\n through what we remainder<\/span>
\n in bulk or recycle in peace.<\/span>
\n The account of their labour<\/span><\/p>\n

will tally the same<\/span>
\n as our own best<\/span>
\n treasury of kitsch. No blame<\/span>
\n if blest is curst, curst blest:<\/span><\/p>\n

judgment will\u00a0falter,<\/span>
\npassions flare and pall,<\/span>
\nfashions alter.<\/span>
\n What holds us in thrall<\/span><\/p>\n

is the mindless cachet<\/span>
\n we confer to what’re<\/span>
\n just chimera anyway:<\/span>
\n votives for prayer,<\/span><\/p>\n

idols cast into pixels,<\/span>
\n facsimiles which flicker<\/span>
\n then slip, like this poem,<\/span>
\n into oblivion.<\/span><\/p>\n

I have been trying to review and organize my collection of guitar sheet music, a revealing task. Sometimes they bear, usually in the right upper hand corner, pencil notations of their price, a figure not just inflation but their inevitable fate put wildly out of whack with their value. \u00a0These frayed and increasingly brittle parchment-like leafs will be recycled, if all goes well, in a bin for cellulose refuse.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
