From the 20th century on entire literary culture has evolved<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>from aspiring modernism to a state of facile identitarian subjectivism..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p>George Schuyler&#8217;s 1929 <em>Racial Inter-Marriage in the United States<\/em>, called for solving the US race problem through interracial marriage, then known by the odious term of &#8220;miscegenation&#8221;, which was illegal in many states until a 1967 SCOTUS decision<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>*<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In <i>The Walls of Jericho,\u00a0<\/i>the first novel by Rudolph Fisher, the lawyer Ralph Merritt buys a house in a white neighborhood bordering Harlem. In their reactions to Merritt and to one another, Fisher&#8217;s characters\u2014including the prejudiced Miss Cramp, who &#8220;takes on causes the way sticky tape picks up lint.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 1929, Schuyler&#8217;s pamphlet <i>Racial Inter-Marriage in the United States<\/i> called for solving the country&#8217;s race problem through <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miscegenation\">miscegenation<\/a>, which was then illegal in most states.<\/p>\n<p>He also published the highly controversial book <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slaves_Today:_A_Story_of_Liberia\"><i>Slaves Today: A Story of Liberia<\/i><\/a>, a novel about the slave trade created by former American slaves who settled <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberia\">Liberia<\/a> in the 1820s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_New_Group\">In early 2020, <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_New_Group\">The New Group<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_New_Group\">\u00a0(https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_New_Group)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>announced it was developing a musical adaptation of <i>Black No More<\/i> directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Scott_Elliott&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Scott Elliott<\/a> with a book by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Ridley\">John Ridley<\/a> and choreography by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.m.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bill_T._Jones\">Bill T. Jones<\/a>.
