{"id":317,"date":"2020-08-30T17:46:08","date_gmt":"2020-08-30T17:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alteritas.net\/entwistedtongues\/?page_id=317"},"modified":"2023-04-15T20:29:28","modified_gmt":"2023-04-15T20:29:28","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/alteritas.net\/entwistedtongues\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/alteritas.net\/entwistedtongues\/skinny-dipping-with-alligators\/\">Skinny-Dippin\u2019 with Alligators<\/a> <i>is a comic narrative poem in Southern speech, more precisely \u201cTexas Tawk\u201d \u2013 a language I more or less forgot over the years.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>The idea for it\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0<i>came to me when I was thinking about travel, and in particular a poem by Horace which I had taught years ago. <strong>Homer<\/strong> and <strong>Virgil<\/strong> and <strong>Beatrice<\/strong> enter as character names, hence the spurious subtitle, a <\/i><strong>Redneck Odyssey<\/strong>. I wanted to write in the soft, swangy accent of my youth.<\/p>\n<p><i>I fiddled at a while till I realized I\u2019d need some help. The proximity of my cousin <strong>Red Dog<\/strong> made me think he might help me speak like that again.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>What they call in the movies plot, character, scenario \u2013 in all that we became a tag team.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The music is his. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Parental guidance warning to the Ladies and the Gentlemen present who may not like having exposed out in public how they think and what they do.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0There is not a shred of political correctness herein.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Skinny-Dippin\u2019 with Alligators is a comic narrative poem in Southern speech, more precisely \u201cTexas Tawk\u201d \u2013 a language I more or less forgot over the years.
