{"id":467,"date":"2023-04-15T16:44:31","date_gmt":"2023-04-15T16:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alteritas.net\/entwistedtongues\/?page_id=467"},"modified":"2023-04-15T20:47:08","modified_gmt":"2023-04-15T20:47:08","slug":"paratexts-for-skinny-dippin","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/alteritas.net\/entwistedtongues\/paratexts-for-skinny-dippin\/","title":{"rendered":"Paratexts for Skinny-Dippin&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 1rem;\">Skinny-Dippin&#8217; with Alligators <\/span><i style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 1rem;\">is a comic narrative poem in Southern speech, more precisely \u201cTexas Tawk\u201d &#8211; a language I more or less forgot over the years.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><i>The idea for it\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0<i>came to me when I was thinking about travel, and in particular a poem by Horace which I had taught years ago. <strong>Homer<\/strong> and <strong>Virgil<\/strong> and <strong>Beatrice<\/strong> enter as character names, hence the spurious subtitle, a <\/i><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Redneck Odyssey<\/span><\/strong>. I wanted to write in the soft, swangy accent of my youth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><i>I fiddled at a while till I realized I&#8217;d need some help.
