Purslane has less crunch, more moist munch.<br \/>\nAs for chewy shiso, decoratively as garnish<br \/>\nor rolled into a <i>temaki<\/i> cone, it appears often in sushi<br \/>\n(\u3059\u3057, \u5bff\u53f8, \u9ba8\u00a0 as variously transcribed).<br \/>\nI found some the same morning in the next stall in the market.<br \/>\nHyssop could have served as well, but serendipity rules,<br \/>\nespecially in the kitchen, and in the writing of poems.<br \/>\nYou are supposed to emprison the shelled baby peas<br \/>\nin a cage of lettuce, which is related to daisy,<br \/>\nthis to infuse them with vegetal fumes and flavour.<br \/>\nIf the peas are tender enough, skip steaming them.<br \/>\nJust sizzle in butter, adding the hand-picked lobes of purslane.<br \/>\nThen you have to decide:\u00a0 do you want to tear the shiso<br \/>\ninto unrecognizable bits, letting wait until its distinct taste<br \/>\nimposes cognizance of what it is upon your guests?<br \/>\nOr would you rather show off its bright-green fractal leaves<br \/>\nby inserting them whole at angles around the dish of peas?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Young, I hadn\u2019t the faintest notion of purslane, though knew of watercress.
