In <\/em>Ellipse <em>50 (2001, pp 82-93). with which journal I had collaborated since 1976, I made the following observation: &#8220;Alas, neither in Canada nor in Qu\u00e9bec have there been many poets who produced an interesting body of work in two languages, at least not to my taste. So to help close this chapter of Ellipse (the final North Hatley\/Shebrooke issue) let me adduce two poems, composed directly in French by Rilke himself.
