All it took was one good prick for me to\u00a0<\/em><em>flash on this poem, which I wrote when I first arrived on these dry hillsides, <a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chaparral\">chaparral<\/a> which has now been \u00a0displaced by ticky-tacky. What a place to experience ones own sunset!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p>Day sheds its sheath of light,<br \/>\nthe skin of things a wisp,<br \/>\na wreath, every blade clinging<br \/>\nto the flare once pulsing within.<\/p>\n<p>As shadows climb the hills,<br \/>\nthe heavens spin above;<br \/>\ncaught in their swivel,<br \/>\na luminous planet or two.<\/p>\n<p>Below thrive thistle, laurel, sage,<br \/>\nmanzanita, sumac and rue.<br \/>\nBreeze brushes their gilded<br \/>\nshafts.
