Like kudzu<br \/>\nor the parachuting dandelion fluff<br \/>\nwe superstitiously disperse\u00a0with\u00a0puffs,<br \/>\npoetry goes wild, turns weed. Its niche<br \/>\nbecomes a whole ecology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">O Peoples of the Earth, hear me on this!<br \/>\nPoetry clings to everything. We can\u2019t<br \/>\nhack back its proliferating\u00a0nodes, trap<br \/>\nits encapsulated seeds,\u00a0which survive<br \/>\nthe seasons,\u00a0germinate\u00a0in pavement cracks,<br \/>\non distant rooftop tar. Poetry thrives<br \/>\noff CO<sup>2 <\/sup>and every breath released.<br \/>\nWe must live with the change it brings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"at-below-post-page addthis_tool\" style=\"text-align: left;\" data-url=\"https:\/\/alteritas.net\/pastis\/inventory\/global-warning\/\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>The viral dimensions of this poem were not as striking when I wrote it a decade ago at the beginning of my retirement and what I envisioned as an unbroken period of poetic composition. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Nothing quite so ecstatically Dylan-Thomas-esque happened. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Yet it has been a very productive period.
